Screening & Early Detection

“She made it through childbirth, but her heart is silently breaking. Your donation could be the reason she lives to raise her baby.”

🚨 URGENT CALL TO ACTION:

Because Early Detection Can Save Lives

Too many women experiencing symptoms of heart failure during or after pregnancy are told their symptoms are “normal.” Our mission is to help women feel heard earlier through education, awareness, advocacy, and community resource support.

Symptoms That Should Not Be Ignored

Women experiencing the following symptoms during pregnancy or postpartum should speak with a healthcare provider about proper medical evaluation:

  • Shortness of breath
  • Swelling in the legs, feet, or face
  • Chest discomfort
  • Rapid heartbeat or palpitations
  • Extreme fatigue
  • Difficulty breathing while laying down
  • Persistent coughing
  • Feeling faint or dizzy

If symptoms become severe or suddenly worsen, seek immediate medical attention.

What Is BNP Testing?

BNP (B-type Natriuretic Peptide) is a blood test that may help healthcare providers evaluate stress on the heart.

In some situations, elevated BNP levels may indicate heart strain or heart failure-related concerns. BNP testing may be one of several tools used by medical providers alongside additional evaluations such as echocardiograms, imaging, and clinical assessment.

Women experiencing concerning symptoms should discuss proper evaluation and testing options with their healthcare provider.
